Martha Depp: 1977-2011

I knew Martha Depp only briefly, back in 2001, when I first moved to North Carolina after graduating from University up in British Columbia. She was a friend of my ex-wife's, and I can remember sitting next to her in an attic apartment at a casual, intimate gathering my ex-wife had dragged me to so that I could meet some of her friends. She and I were not yet quite dating.

Martha and I sat on a padded bench seat, talking about our mutual interest in art. I did not really know her. Like most women I was acquainted with at the time, I think she scared me a little. And yet today, when I randomed across this video of her life and art on facebook, I felt compelled to shed a tear and share it forward.
